Innistrad Prediction #3: The Ultimate Flip Card September 5, 2011

Posted by James in : all, fake cards, speculation , trackback

Tom LaPille, a Magic designer, tells us that “When we see an opportunity to do something exciting in a spot that only exists this once, we should usually take it.” What opportunity will have to be taken now (or very soon)? For one, a Planeswalker that can transform (flip upside down revealing a new side). For another, a flip card that can transform. I present a creature card I call “Flip”:

Let’s take a closer look at all four “forms” that Flippie can take:

FORM ONE: FLIP

Flip begins his life as a depressed Nosferatu-like clown. Not much to look like, but attacking gives him the hope to transform into something better.

FORM TWO: FLIP-FLOP

flip-flop

Flip changes into “Flip-Flop,” a naughty and mischievous clown that is already a decent card (a 3/1 for two mana). And Flip-Flop has a chance to transform into Flippie, something even better. (It’s a double-faced card. Turn it face-down on the table to transform it.)

FORM THREE: FLIPPIE

Flippie is happy and quite proud. He’s not really much better than he was as Flip-Flop, but now when he changes he will get double-strike.

FORM FOUR: FLIPPIE THE FLIPPER-JACK

Flippie the Flipper-Jack is mad with power — or delusions of power. At this point he has the possibility of flipping onto the battlefield (tabletop) and destroying permanents, just like Chaos Orb.
