Drafting Mirrodin Besieged Part 3: 5 More Cards Good in Infect (Strategy & Tips) March 4, 2011

I have already mentioned various great cards drafting Mirrodin Besieged. Many of these are good in Infect. Viridian Corrupter, Go for the Throat, Plague Myr, Flayer Husk, Spread the Sickness, Sphere of the Suns, and Signal Pest are all my favorite non-rare cards to use when drafting Mirrodin Besieged and I discuss these cards here and here. The point of the first two articles was to make it clear what cards you should take before you know if you are going to play a certain theme. The point of this piece is to discuss what cards Infect players should be taking almost exclusively based on the fact that they are committed to the infect theme. My top 5 cards include the following:

5. Rot Wolf

rot wolf

Rot Wolf is almost always a two for one when it trades with another creature. It would have been a decent card, even if it didn’t have infect.

4. Flesh Eater Imp

flesh-eater imp

Flesh-Eater Imp isn’t just a flier with Infect because the pump ability is very important. It’s cards like this that make sure Infect wins after a couple serious attacks.

3. Core Prowler

core prowler

Core Prowler might not be quite as good as I think, but the proliferate ability is quite good and assures you that it can trade with a 3/3.

2. Phyrexian Juggernaut

phyrexian juggernaut

Phyrexian Juggernaut kills the opponent with two hits. It’s a great finisher in Infect.

1.  Virulent Wound

virulent wound

Virulent Wound is both removal and a card that gives the opponent poison counters. Removal tends to be even higher on my list, but it’s a little underpowered for removal.

Conclusion

All five of these cards are quite good, and there are also white cards that have infect. I didn’t mention any of these because I think it’s a much better idea to play green/black infect than any other color combination. There’s only two white creatures with infect, and I don’t think that’s enough for an infect deck.

virulent wound is really number 1? I see it used mostly as a Myr killer.

You missed Mortarpod…best card ever.

Good point, Mortarpod might even belong on a list better than this one.
