Predicting the Future Part 4: Moxes from M11 to M19 June 26, 2010

I have already presented you with my version of Mox Crystal, which I expect to be made sooner or later, but I will now present several more moxes that could be made within the next 9 years. I will start off with 3 green moxes that would actually be made in all five colors (if made at all).

mox gea

Mox Gaea would return the drawback from Serra’s Avenger to be used for a Mox. I think many people overestimate the power of Moxes. The main idea is just that a Mox is like a basic land, but it isn’t limited by the “one per turn restriction.” The most important thing about Moxes in the not too distant future is that they aren’t strictly better than basic lands. Mox Gaea and the other moxes I present over the next week or two will live up to that demand.

mox jade

Mox Jade would fit in perfectly well with the current “fixed” moxes that we have seen so far, Mox Diamond and Chrome Mox. Both of these cards required you to discard or exile a card from your hand. (One required you to give up a land and the other requires you to give up a non-land card.) Mox Jade would let you give up anything, but it is restricted to only producing green mana, unlike the other fixed moxes of the past.

mox plutonium

Mox Plutonium is much like my version of Mox Crystal, except it only produces green mana and it does 1 less damage to you. I would be incredibly happy to get either Mox Plutonium or Mox Crystal. They are probably the most powerful moxes that we might see within the next 9 years.

Plutonium is not so good. I am sure it would be played, but the Enters the Battlefield tapped clause makes it a lot less exciting.

The chrome mox looks like a lot of fun. Might be too much acceleration even though it is restricted to just green. Exile is good so it doesn’t fuel the graveyard.

As for the first mox, the power to jump from 3 to 5 is pretty strong. Having it just be green might make it ok, but it is not something I would like to see in standard.

Also, all P9-ish reprints should be Mythic.

I don’t know that all power 9 stuff should be mythic. Moxes and Lotuses in particular are a form of mana fixing, so it might not be appropriate
