Infinity: A Future Magic Set Part 4 July 9, 2009

Posted by James in : all, fake cards, speculation , trackback

Before reading this, you should take a look at Part 1.

Welcome to the final installment of my Infinity articles. In today’s article I will preview three noncreature spells. Some of these are a little more powerful for the cost.

fairness

Fairness should look familiar and it reflects design space that has been neglected: Balance cards. Fairness deals with just about any threat, but it can’t be abused as much as the real balance that rewards players for playing moxes.

cosmic event

Cosmic Event is a tribute to Plow Under. This provides a pretty good reason to play basic lands and can sometimes win a game by itself. Cosmic Event is one of the best reasons to draft green.

dromar, shivan dragon

Last but not least, Dromar. The planeswalkers are actually more tame than necessary because they aren’t fun to lose to. If you have nothing to do for a couple of turns, a Planeswalker can be devastating.
My next article will be posted on Tuesday, July 14, 2009.

Dromar is a WUB dragon in Planeshift http://magiccards.info/in/en/244.html
So, that name does not fit with the color or the card.

3. James - July 10, 2009

michael,

This is a different Dromar. Why is it that people seem to assume there can only be one person with a name in fantasy world? There could be a simple Peasant with the name Yawgmoth somewhere.

4. m_tironi - May 30, 2011

True, in tolkines books, many characters had the same name.

*tolkien’s

6. Matt - July 28, 2011

ummm, yeah, but its completely unrealistic for a GAME to be as complicated as a BOOK on this topic. There’s an extremely good reason why they try to reduce confusion as much as possible, and having multiple people running around with the exact same name is just a dumb idea for a game. Imagine if there was some 1-mana 2/2 unblockable legendary femme fatale espionage artist called ‘Black Lotus’. A 2/2 unblockable is all well and good, but….people might be mad when they eBay’d “Black Lotus”, paid $2,000, and got just a lousy 2/2 for 1 mana. I mean, that’d be a good card….just not nearly 2,000 dollars of good.

7. James - July 28, 2011

They already have three Jaces in the game, and one of them is worth a lot more than the other two. Dromar, Shivan Dragon is just as different from the original Dromar as that.

They could make “Black Lotus, Femme Fetale.”

Maybe they shouldn’t do any of that. I made up the card without realizing the name was used before.

8. Guy - December 5, 2012

These are all very poorly designed. The green spell and planewalker would auto win every game ever
