Updated 8-8-2009

Selling Fake Cards & Alternate Art on Ebay is an exciting opportunity for artists… and others. There are at least 8 varieties of these cards:

  1. Extended art painted on a card.
  2. Textless art painted on a card.
  3. Creative art alteration.
  4. Creative art painted on a card.
  5. Irrelevant art painted on a card.
  6. Random girl painted on a foil land.
  7. Cards made in MSE.
  8. Picture pasted onto card.

When you draft M10, it’s a good idea to make a two color deck. You can have a main color and a secondary color. I have already discussed what cards to look for when you take first picks or second picks. Now I will discuss other decent and mentionable commons and uncommons to look for in each color. (more…)

How Ebay Customer Support Caused Pain Part 2: Sellers Can Refuse to Sell July 17, 2009

Updated 8-2-2009.

Before reading this, you might want to see Part 1.

A long story made short: Ebay does not seem to punish sellers who refuse to sell the item you win. I won sixteen Braid of Fire cards from ccghouse.com, but the seller decided only to give me four. He has twenty one more on his website. Ebay made it difficult to report the seller and has done nothing about it.

Conclusion: Ebay sellers can refuse to sell. They can only worry about possible negative feedback from buyers who know that the seller’s behavior is inappropriate.

Magic 2010 Review Part 3: Top 14 New Cards for Standard July 14, 2009

Update (7-17-2009): Added Honor the Pure and dual lands to the list

The point of this review is to take a look at the best new cards in Magic 2010 for Standard (that we don’t already have in Standard). For example, we already have Ajani Goldmane and Birds of Paradise, so they aren’t worth mentioning. Essence Scatter also doesn’t count because it’s the same thing as Remove Soul. However, the card could be a reprint that we simply haven’t seen for a while. (more…)

Magic 2010 Review Part 2: Second Picks July 8, 2009

Posted by James in : all, reviews, previews, strategy, tips, limited, draft, sealed , 6comments

Second picks are a notch under first picks. They are cards that are sometimes worth taking as a first pick in a draft. It is important to know what cards are considered to be second picks because every card in your deck isn’t going to be a bomb or a first pick when playing in a draft or sealed deck tournament. Taking a close look at the second picks can help you decide what colors to play, and it will help you take the best cards in a draft. I will only discuss the common and uncommon second picks because you can’t count on getting good rares in a limited event. (more…)

Magic 2010: First Impressions Part 2 July 2, 2009

Posted by James in : all, reviews, previews , 3comments

Almost all of my main concerns were discussed in part 1, but I would like to nitpick about some smaller details involving M10 (Magic 2010). In particular, about the flavor; about the power level; about the colors red, white, and green; and about the lack of synergy. (more…)

Magic 2010: First Impressions July 1, 2009

Posted by James in : all, reviews, previews , 3comments

The Magic 2010 Spoiler was completed today, just four months after 2010 was announced. I am not a big fan of Core Sets, and I see little reason for them to exist. The reason that block constructed can be played without the core set should be proof that it is unnecessary to have them. The main idea seems to be to have an easy set for beginners. 10th Edition was a step in the right direction:
