If you can’t get one of the best bombs or first picks mentioned in my previous articles, you could still get something nearly as powerful. These I call “second picks.” Here are my favorite 12 second picks: (more…)

Yes, there are several rare first picks, but this is nothing unusual. What makes the big difference when playing in sealed and draft events are the common and uncommon first picks. (These are cards good enough to pick as your first card when playing in a draft event.) The most important first picks tend to be creature removal spells. Here are the top 8 first picks found in Alara Reborn: (more…)

Alara Reborn Review Part 2: Limited Bombs April 25, 2009

I have chosen what I believe to be the top 6 limited bombs of Alara Reborn. These are the best cards you can get when playing in a sealed or draft tournament. My criteria for a bomb are the following:

  1. It will win you the game if it is not stopped.
  2. It is undercosted. Lower mana cost is good.
  3. It has few colors. No colors is best.

Bombs do not have to meet all of the above criteria. Either of the first two attributes of bombs can be enough to make a card a bomb. (more…)

Now that the Alara Reborn spoiler is finished and I have spent some time thinking about all of the cards. I still agree with my first impressions. However, I decided that the Borderposts are better than I thought (at the time I wrote the first impressions article). They are pretty much just comes-into-play-tapped-duals. That’s not a great thing, but it will help a lot with mana fixing. In some ways I like the mana fixing in this set better than in Conflux. (more…)

Will Beta Dual Lands Come Back? April 17, 2009

underground seaYes. This may sound absurd because of the reprint policy. No problem, they will be printed again but slightly differently. Without land types, for example. Why will this happen? For at least two reasons. One, because it will guarantee that lots of sales will be made. It will do exactly what Magic exists to do: Make money. Two, some day Revised dual lands will be too hard to get and players will demand that they get a chance to play with them. (more…)

What will the dual lands of 11th Edition (Magic 2010) look like? I already explained what other people suspect the new dual lands might be like. The time has come for me to introduce my new ideas about what the dual lands might look like: (more…)

I already wrote an article about what the dual lands of 11th Edition (Magic 2010) might look like here, but there are many other interesting ideas for dual lands. In this article I will present some of the more interesting ideas that other people have thought of. I will write another article that presents my own ideas. (more…)

Easter Eggs: Secrets Found In Card Art April 7, 2009

uktabi orangutan thumbnailArtists like to hide secrets within their artwork. Apperantly this is because of censorship. If sex, nudity, and general disgusting stuff isn’t allowed in the artwork, then it will have to be hidden within the artwork. I will present four cards and their secrets. (more…)

The art and card names of 5 Obelisk-like cards have been spoiled here. Like Obelisks, cards like these are expected to be used for mana fixing. However, Alara Reborn is all multicolored, so it isn’t as easy to provide us with mana fixing. Here are two ideas about what these cards might do that were thought of by other people: (more…)

Predicting Zendikar Part 4 April 2, 2009

A New Kind of Poison (part 2)

It has been suggested that Zendikar might feature poison in new ways: It can be used on instants/sorceries, as a drawback, or as a resource. I have shown how the first two ideas might work, but how might poison be used as a resource?
