Stolen Artwork March 3, 2009

Posted by James in : all, random , trackback

After spending hundreds of hours looking through fantasy art, I noticed that some of the artwork found on Magic Cards looks a little too similar to art I’ve already seen… even when the art I’ve already seen was very random and original.

Where Ancients Tread

I didn’t realize why Where Ancient Tread looked familiar for quite some time. Where Ancients Tread was created in 2008 by Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai, whose website is at www.boros-szikszai.com. This is an enlarged image of Where Ancients Tread:

In 2007 Damir Martin created an even more impressive image that is quite similar, who has a website at air.cgsociety.org. This is the original image that I saw:

Both images are of a forest with burning areas surrounded by trees, and hills and the sky in the distance. I have no idea what these images are really supposed to be. The pictures are completely random and unique, so it is pretty clear that Where Ancients Tread is “inspired by” the idea from Damir Martin’s art piece.

Rupture Spire

The picture for Rupture Spire was created by Jaime Jones, whose website is at www.artpad.org. A larger image for rupture spire can be found below:

An older picture suspiciously similar to Rupture Spire was created by Christophe Vacher, whose website can be found at www.vacher.com. The image can be found below:

Both of these images are of a large spike coming through the ground. The original image by Christophe Vacher shows the actual excitement of the spike emerging from the ground with active ground particles shooting up with the spike, but the newer image by Jaime Jones shows smoke or steam being released with the spike.

My next article will be posted on Friday 3-6-2009.
