Shards of Alara Block Constructed Part 7: Exalted February 17, 2009

Now that Conflux has arrived, Exalted (Bant) decks will be different. In particular, Path to Exile and Noble Hierarch should be included. Right now Bant is a fairly competitive deck in Standard (type 2) using Wilt-Leaf Liege and Kitchen Finks. These are the most important cards that can’t be included for Shards of Alara Block. Here is my current idea for a bant deck:

4 Akrasan Squire
2 Battlegrace Angel
2 Elspeth, Knight Errant
4 Jhessian Infiltrator
4 Path to Exile
4 Bant Charm
4 Rhox War Monk
4 Noble Hierarch
4 Aven Squire
4 Oblivion Ring
4 Sigiled Paladin
4 Seaside Citadel
2 Jungle Shrine
2 Arcane Sanctum
6 Plains
6 Forest
4 Island

The main strength of Bant is its speed, and its greatest weakness is the fact that it relies on three colors, which require slow “comes into play tapped” lands. In other words, Bant can be fast, but the lands slow it down. I wouldn’t want to rely on only four triple lands, so it would probably be a good idea to put four extra ones in the deck that are “off-color.”

[…] This is an older article that has been replaced by a newer one found here. (Only cards from Shards of Alara block are allowed.) This is quite speculative considering that the set isn’t out yet, and I haven’t play tested the decks, but there is no reason why speculation should be completely dismissed. We have a complete list of cards, experience playing the game, and common sense. […]
