Conflux Predictions January 13, 2009

Posted by James in : all, fake cards , trackback

I made up what two cards would do if they were from an alternate dimension in an article a couple days ago. However, we still don’t know what these cards will do. This is my chance to take a stab at guessing what they might end up being like. There are at least two new cycles (domain and X spells), and it is quite possible for these cards to be either of those.

After Wild Nacatl showed us that Wizards is willing to continue their game of power creep by improving upon Kird ape, we are still waiting for the ultimate version (shown above). We might not be ready for this card in its full glory, so I predict that it will have Jackal Pup’s weakness.

It is possible that we won’t see this if Wizards decided to make the horrific Matca Rioters instead. This would miss the point of our need for power creep, but it might be that we simply aren’t quite ready for it yet.

I like overrun, and this could help creature decks a little bit. However, global destruction is still a big problem for creature decks… other than Faeries.

Update (1-15-2007): We have found out Nicol Bolas’s abilities and we have the picture. We just don’t have a scan of the actual card yet. This is a mock up of what it might look like:

Update (1-25-2009)

We finally found out what Controlled Instincts does, and it was unexpectedly a blue card:

Controlled Instincts U
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant red or green creature
Enchanted creature doesn’t untap during its controller’s untap step.

Child of Alara doesn’t have a p/t box…

also, the rumors I hear say it will be the WWUUBBRRGG card and an Avatar.

2. James - January 13, 2009

Is it going to be a planeswalker then? I don’t see Child of Alara as an enchantment, instant, sorcery, or artifact.

Can the rumors about Child of Alara be confirmed on the Orb of Insight?

3. michael - January 14, 2009

There is only one Planeswalker in this set…Nicol Bolas.

There is no evidence to support this through the orb; it is pure speculation. But from what I have read, the mysterious WWUUBBRRGG cost is supposedly tied in with this creature and it will probably be some super Avatar creature…or an Epic Fail.

No matter what Child of Alara is, I can’t imagine anyone ever playing it for that mana cost. Sliver Queen was hard enough. The only card worth playing for that much mana is “you win the game.” Door to Nothingness already did that. The only reason that it would be played is if it works well with reanimation.

Child of Alara - Legendary Creature - Avatar
When Child of Alara is put into a graveyard from play, destroy all non-land permanents. They can’t be regenerated.

the WWUUBBRRGG is for some other stupid timmy creature.

[…] We have seen three rare X spells in Conflux so far, and I suspect that we will have one for every color. We have not yet seen a green, blue, or black X spell. I have already predicted what the green one will be in the first Conflux Prediction article. And now I will predict what the blue and black ones might be like: […]
