New Magic templates September 14, 2008

Posted by James in : all, fake cards, reviews , trackback

The best thing about the internet are all the people with too much time on their hand who make awesome free stuff for us. Some of that awesome free stuff includes Magic templates (card frames), which have been organized and made more useful by people at MSE (Magic Set Editor), who help us use these templates to make our own cards. Some of these templates are as professional and creative as the real templates used by Wizards of the Coast. I will review my favorite three templates.

3rd Place: Horror themed community set project

This set looks really crazy, like it would be used for some unglued cards. It is certainly creative and fun looking, but it is a little hard on the eyes, and it is a little hard to read the text on it.

2nd Place: Template by CMG/Comic Book Guy

Comic Book Guy’s template is very bright and colorful, and it has a lot of texture to it. If I saw Magic Cards using this template, I would be shocked. This template looks nothing like Magic cards look right now. It would be a huge leap from the old templates to this.

1st Place: Echo’s Template

Echo’s Template looks inspired by the Futureshifted template. It is simple and dark. It has quite a different layout than Magic cards currently have, but I can imagine Wizards of the Coast really using this template someday. I’m usually not a fan of white text on a dark background, but this template looks great.

I see nobody has commented here. I just want to say I’m glad you’re enjoying the templates. I’m also glad I was involved in creating the first and third place templates. :)

Pichoro, thank you for doing hard work that we can enjoy for free. I am thinking of making my own card game that might use one of these.

I’m glad you found my website. How did that happen?

I search around in google every now and then looking for news about MSE. Typically, I’m hoping to find a new custom template makers to connect to the main forum. Its very rare that I do. Sometimes I find discussion of them, and that’s interesting as well.

The title of this blog made me think I had found someone making new templates. This was an interesting read, though.
